The Afro-Middle East Centre runs a programme of fellowships and internships for both South African and non-South African scholars and students.

The fellowships are available on a short-term basis - between one and three months - to scholars and post-graduate students with a publishing record in the field of Middle East studies. A key purpose of the fellowship programme is to provide a space for non-South African scholars to dedicate time to conduct and publish a particualr piece of research on the Middle East. Fellows will also be expected to present their research at various fora.

Internships are available to students who are either in the final year of their undrgraduate studies, or have just graduated. Students from the humanities disciplines will be preferred. Interns will be provided with the opportunity to gain work experience in a research environment, and will given stipends to cover their expenses. Internships will range from between three to six months.
